The Fitness Company Mural
Posted November 27th, 2007 by psheridan
Painted on three sides of a four story building located on Greencourt, Washington, DC, NW, just south of Thomas Circle.
This project was a crowning jewel in my early commercial art career. I was very lucky to meet and work with Paul London who truly is a man of vision. The project tool roughly five weeks from start to finish and included some interior color and design work to complement the exterior design.
The customer wanted to draw attention to the otherwise drab build stuck in the middle of the block and convey energy and motion, appealing to both men and women.
Ozio Martini and Cigar Lounge - Interior Mural Project

This was a great project. I bartered with the owner, George Krystychous, to throw in a nine foot, leather pocket, red felt billard table as part of the deal.
The mural consisted of faded faces of stars and starlets of the Golden Era of black and white film. I even got written up in the Washington Post for my work on this project.

Acrylic on watercolor paper. 11x17 inches.
This is the conceptual sketch I presented to win the McCormick & Schmick's mural job.
After completing the project, i framed it and gave it to the GM, Pat Gaffney, who gave me one of my first paying gigs.
McCormick & Schmick's - Outdoor Mural
Posted December 6th, 2007 by psheridan
Another one of my early mural projects.
McCormick & Schmick's wanted to use the 100' x 20' construction wall running the entire span of their K street location as advertising for the restaurant while under construction.
I created a design inspired by the work of Wylan and accented the fish in silver paint so they would catch the light from car headlights at night.
Pat Gaffney, the GM of the restaurant and all around good guy, let me sit in on two of the test nights for the wait staff. Now that's exactly what every starving art student needs!
Hands on DC - Anacostia High School, Student Memorial
Posted December 6th, 2007 by psheridan
This volunteer mural was done in coordination with Hands on DC.
I helped a student artist translate his design to commemorate the life of star student athelete and friend, Kelli Bradford, who had been killed by a stray bullet during the school year.
Hands on DC - Miner Elementary School Mural
Posted December 6th, 2007 by psheridan
Volunteer mural done in coordination with Hands on DC.
The theme for the project was "The future begins Now." It was my first outdoor mural and I learned very quickly that oil based paint and 3rd graders do not mix well.
Overall it was a great experience. The only depressing statement was that a year later I went back to photograph the mural and someone had spraypainted "Thug Life 4-Ever" across the mural.
It doesn't get any more DC than that.

Quality of Life Painting
Posted November 25th, 2007 by psheridancrylic on canvas.
The first in my "Quality of Life" series. I got really into the random walls throughout the city where someone painted over graffitti, creating an abstract form by virtue of the mismatched paint colors.
I started buying rejct paint from home depot and stretching 5 by 6 foot paintings, rolling a color and then having my friends tag the canvas.
We would repeat the process several time to build up some layers on the simulated wall. Afterwords, I ogt the idea to take some of my sketchbook drawings and scale them up over the abstract form.
